The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park features concentric, widening, oval rings as its canopy, a structure that reaches a height of 57 feet and a width of 92 feet at the front of the stage. A marriage of brilliant architectural design and acoustical beauty, general contractor Rudolph & Sletten recently completed this magnificent home for performing arts.
The project includes a 13,015-s.f. outdoor stage, acoustic shell, and back-of-house facilities for a year-round version of the Bayside Summer Nights program, formerly called Summer Pops. It also entails a 5,445-s.f. public viewing deck with concrete steps at the back of the stage, a 68-stall restroom, and two pavilions on a 15,242-s.f. area. Moreover, the Rady Shell seats an audience of up to 10,000. The stage features a concert shell with a cantilevered roof, utilizing 5,000 individually controlled color-changing Traxon lights for a one-of-a-kind experience.
In addition to the stage and seating area, the park is fully equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. A public promenade, new public restrooms and lighting, extensive sustainable park enhancements, ticket boxes, and concessions in the new marketplace pavilion, lend to making public events an experience for attendees all-around.
The type 1L mix design with hand seeded/polished rock turned out great but it was a challenge to place, especially during the summer months.
The Rady Shell opened its doors to the public on August 5th, 2021.
